“The Word of God well understood and religiously obeyed is the shortest route to spiritual perfection. And we must not select a few favorite passages to the exclusion of others. Nothing less than a whole Bible can make a whole Christian.” A.W. Tozer

Weeping for the souls who are deceived

Now after John had been taken into custody, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:14-15  Acts 20:21

That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; or with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Romans 10:9-10

JACOB & ESAU

200701_138_spurgeon2

“JACOB HAVE I LOVED, BUT ESAU HAVE I HATED”
-Romans 9:13
-
WHY DID GOD LOVE JACOB AND HATE ESAU?

I can tell you why God LOVED Jacob–IT IS SOVEREIGN GRACE!

There was nothing in Jacob that could make God love him;
there was everything about him that might have made God
hate him as much as He did Esau, and a great deal more.

But it was because God is infinitely gracious that He loved
Jacob, and because He is sovereign in His dispensation of
His grace, that He chose Jacob as an object of that love.

Jacob was loved by God simply on the footing of FREE GRACE.

WHY DID GOD HATE ESAU?
Why does God hate any man?
I defy anyone to give any answer but this…
because that man DESERVES to be hated.
No reply but that can be true.

If God deals severely with any person, it is because that
person deserves all that he gets. Esau did not lose his
birthright; he sold it. He sold it for a “mess of pottage.”

If any of you want to know what I preach, it is this–
“I preach salvation all of grace and damnation all of sin.
I give God the glory for every soul that is saved; and when
I come to preach damnation, I say that damnation is of man.

Lord Lord

In Sunday School, we are at the end of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus leaves us with these hard, straight in your face words. He says this.

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’ 23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’ Matthew 7:21-23

“Why do you call me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I tell you? Luke 6:46

You call me the way and walk me not. You call me the life and live me not. You call me master and obey me not. If I condemn you, blame me not.
You call me bread and eat me not. You call me truth and believe me not. You call me Lord and serve me not. If I condemn you, blame me not

The Prodigal Son

johnny-macThe prodigal son thought pleasure, possessions, and popularity would fulfill his needs. But his soul was still hungry and he finally had the sense to say to himself, “How many of my father’s hired servants have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!” (Luke 15:17). He returned to his father’s house and was given a feast (a picture of salvation). The world’s “food” of riotous living tries to meet the soul’s hunger with the pleasures of sin but send it away starving. Those who respond to the Spirit of God come running to the Father and are given a feast that fills the hungry soul. First John 2:15-16 says, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world [such as] the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life.”

Salvation by Grace!

200701_138_spurgeon1

No sinner will ever come to Christ apart from the quickening, enlightening, drawing, converting power of the Holy Spirit, supernaturally exercised upon the conscience and heart.

Until grace comes into our souls we have no heart for the things of God. We may be fussily religious so far as to be attentive to every ‘outward form of worship’; but there is no heart-work, no light of truth in all our devotion. But when once the divine light
comes in, then we become intensely real in our dealings with God.

When the grace of God comes, the Holy Spirit brings us out from under the dominion of the old nature by creating within us a new life, and he brings us out from under the tyranny of the Prince of Darkness by opening our eyes to see, and our minds to understand celestial truth. The opening of our blind eyes and the pouring in of the light of truth are from the Lord.

The entrance of God’s word into the mind by the power of the Holy Spirit gives us light as to– ourselves, our sin, and our danger. With this comes light as to the way of salvation through Jesus Christ, and light as to the mind of God concerning our sanctification. True knowledge takes the place of ignorance, and a desire for purity becomes supreme over the love of sin.

Not all the temptations of life, nor all the terrors of death, nor all the furies of hell, shall prevent any soul upon whom God has begun his work of grace from reaching eternal salvation. What a blessing is this, and what a comfort it is!

“The salvation of the righteous is of the Lord.” Spurgeon

Predestined Salvation!

From Spurgeon’s sermon, “The Fruits of Grace”

200701_138_spurgeon

“Long before the day-star knew its place,
before God had spoken existence out of nothing,
before angel’s wing had stirred the unnavigated ether,
before a solitary song had disturbed the solemnity of the
silence in which God reigned supreme, he had entered into
solemn council with himself, with his Son, and with
his Spirit, and had in that council decreed, determined,
proposed, and predestinated the salvation of his people!”

4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world,
that we would be holy and blameless before Him In love
5 He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to
Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,
Ephesians 1:4-5

He chose us in Christ, John 15:16 not in ourselves.

We on our own do not seek God Romans 3:10-11

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf,
so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
2 Corinthians 5:21

That is why we’re without blame and holy. Because of Him!

The amazing, wonderful thing is He did all this before eternity past.
He caused us to be born again 1 Peter 1:3 for all eternity!

This gives me great hope. I live because He lives in me.

You should have mentioned something about your part

ironsideDr. Harry Ironside told of a man who gave his testimony, telling how God had sought him and found him. How God had loved him, called him, saved him, delivered him, cleansed him, and healed him. It was a tremendous testimony to the glory of God. After the meeting, one person in the service took him aside and said, “You know, I appreciate all that you said about what God did for you, but you did not mention anything about your part in it. Salvation is really part us and part God, and you should have mentioned something about your part.”

“Oh,” the man said, “I apologize. I am sorry. I really should have mentioned that. My part was running away, and God’s part was running after me until he found me.” Michael P. Green. Illustrations for Biblical Preaching. Baker Book House. 1985. p. 267

28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 30 and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. Romans 8:28-30

And I love  Romans 8:31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?

This gives me great hope and peace knowing God is for those He called, saved, perfects and seals for eternity with Him.
