He made Him

2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

lenny25People that know me have heard me say that this verse has to be one of the most important verses in all the Bible. I know your thinking what about John 3:16… I would say what about it. good verse. 2 Corinthians 5:21 He (God) made Him (Christ) to be our propitiation… propitiation means that God’s wrath against sin, demanded by His justice, is appeased on account of the death of Christ for those who would believe (Romans 3:25; Hebrews 2:17; 1 John 2:2;4:10) A day doesn’t go by that I don’t  seem to quote this verse to someone or even myself in prayer. Christ took our sin upon Himself so we… those who would believe  might be declared righteous with the hope of being made righteous in glory…and we know hope doesn’t disappoint for a believer in Christ. So let us always be in daily prayer that is filled with ongoing repentance for our sin to our savior and God. Lord grant me never to lose sight of these words He made Him.

The Puritan said it the best.

O God of grace,

T hou hast imputed my sin to my substitute,

and hast imputed his righteousness

to my soul,

clothing me with a bridegroom’s robe,

decking me with jewels of holiness.

But in my Christian walk I am still in rags;

my best prayers are stained with sin;

my penitential tears are so much impurity;

my confessions of wrong are so many

aggravations of sin;

my receiving the Spirit is tinctured with

selfishness.

I need to repent of my repentance;

I need my tears to be washed;

I have no robe to bring to cover my sins,

no loom to weave my own righteousness;

I am always standing clothed in filthy garments,

and by grace am always receiving change of

raiment,

for thou dost always justify the ungodly;

I am always going into the far country,

and always returning home as a prodigal,

always saying, Father, forgive me,

and thou art always bringing forth

the best robe.

Every morning let me wear it,

every evening return in it,

go out to the day’s work in it,

be married in it,

be wound in death in it,

stand before the great white throne in it,

enter heaven in it shining as the sun.

Grant me never to lose sight of

the exceeding sinfulness of sin,

the exceeding righteousness of salvation,

the exceeding glory of Christ,

the exceeding beauty of holiness,

the exceeding wonder of grace.

The Relationship Between Worship and Preaching

john-stott“All worship is an intelligent and loving response to the revelation of God, because it is the adoration of his Name. Therefore acceptable worship is impossible without preaching. For preaching is making known the Name of the Lord, and worship is praising the Name of the Lord made known. Far from being an alien intrusion into worship, the reading and preaching of the Word are actually indispensable to it. The two cannot be divorced. Indeed, it is their unnatural divorce which account for the low level of so much contemporary worship.

Our worship is poor because our knowledge of God is poor, and our knowledge of God is poor because our preaching is poor. But when the Word of God is expounded in its fullness, and the congregation begin to glimpse the glory of the living God, they bow down in solemn awe and joyful wonder before his throne. It is preaching which accomplishes this, the proclamation of the Word of God in the power of the Spirit of God. -John Stott, Between Two Worlds

Study to Shew Thyself Approved

Today my Mom would have turned 71, normally I would meet her for lunch and we would get into some kind of discussion about my study. Eventually this would come out of her mouth… “Lenny-Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” kjv 2 Timothy 2:15  She would say the best thing you can say to your friends, family and strangers is the truth with love Ephesians 4:15.. You know she was right, Jesus was the truth, when He meets a Pharisees named Nicodemus He gave him spiritual truth John 3:3 or the woman by the well…Truth John 4:10 and the list goes on. What I finally realize is in order to know the truth you actually have to study, read and dig into the meaning of the text and study more. Jesus said “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. John 14:6. Jesus and the word of God are inseparable John 1:1,14 1 John 1:1 God doesn’t want to just stock our brains with knowledge and truth, He wants us to receive it, experience it and share it.

But it takes hard work.

Thanks Mom for this advice and I’ll see you when I get there.

Confronting Error with Condemnation, Not Conversation, Parts 1- 2

Luke 20:45-47
And while all the people were listening, He said to the disciples,46 “Beware of the scribes, who like to walk around in long robes, and love respectful greetings in the market places, and chief seats in the synagogues and places of honor at banquets, 47 who devour widows’ houses, and for appearance’s sake offer long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.”

The Word of God and Christ

lenny25I can certainly relate to this video below, especially when I was a very young christian…my bible would sit there collecting dust waiting for the next Sunday to come. That all changed for me when I heard this Psalm being read Psalm 19:7-11

The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of the Lord are true; they are righteous altogether.
10 They are more desirable than gold, yes, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them Your servant is warned;
In keeping them there is great reward.

Now every chance I get, every conversation I’m in, I want to talk about God’s word, more specifically Jesus Christ. The word of God and Christ are inseparable Revelation 19:13, John 1:1-3, I John 1:1-3; 5:7
Jesus Christ is “the Word of God.” He is God’s exalted Word, exalted above all his name Psalm 138:2. Thats why if I do not talk about His word about Christ…I feel like the prophet Jeremiah who said

51Bbpqihu0L._SL500_AA240_But if I say, “I will not remember Him
Or speak anymore in His name,”
Then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire
Shut up in my bones;
And I am weary of holding it in,
And I cannot endure it.
Jeremiah 20:9.

I believe two very important relationships happen when you become a child of God

1. a new relationship with Jesus Christ, is a new relationship with your sin.

2. a new relationship with Jesus Christ, is a new relationship with God’s word.

How’s your relationship with God’s word, is it collecting dust or are you collecting valuable truths that will make you grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 3:18 to Him be the glory.

“He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.”Revelation 19:13
