Just Preach and Teach His Word

In 2 Timothy 4:1, 2 and 3 Paul says to young Timothy  “I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,”

Be ready Timothy, the pressure to do other wise is coming, withstand it Timothy, “be ready in season and out of season” Other-words Timothy “All The Time” What I’m saying Timothy is to reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction, they need much instruction and implication of the Word of God, because if you don’t young Timothy a time will come and could already be here that they will just want their ears tickled, they’ll say that’s too deep, too much doctrine, too much Word of God, give us things that will make us go away happy, just tickle our ears. Don’t listen Timothy, don’t give them what they desire, give them what they need… The unadulterated, inerrant and all-sufficient Word of God.

Look at God’s desires, will they not come to pass, will they not be accomplished… Well, give a look!

“Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’; Calling a bird of prey from the east, The man of My purpose from a far country. Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass. I have planned it, surely I will do it. Isaiah 46:9, 10 and 11 Just Preach and Teach The Word Timothy!

His word is not empty, it will accomplishing what He desires Timothy, so Timothy what they desire or  what He desires?

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:10, 11 Just Preach and Teach The Word Timothy!

When it’s all said and done young Timothy, look what’s left?

The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever. Isaiah 40:8 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away. Matthew 24:35

So I command you Pastor Timothy in front of your God and of Jesus Christ your Savior and Lord… Just Preach and Teach The Word and He will do the rest!

“O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you like a dog worrying over a bone 1 Timothy 6:20-21… Because God said:

So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it. “Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass. I have planned it, surely I will do it.”

Church Activity

We of the nervous West are victims of the philosophy of activism tragically misunderstood. Getting and spending, going and returning, organizing and promoting, buying and selling, working and playing-this alone constitutes living. If we are not making plans or working to carry out plans already made we feel that we are failures, that we are sterile, unfruitful eunuchs, parasites on the body of society. The gospel of work, as someone has called it, has crowded out the gospel of Christ in many Christian churches.

In an effort to get the work of the Lord done we often lose contact with the Lord of the work and quite literally wear our people out as well. I have heard more than one pastor boast that his church was a “live” one, pointing to the printed calendar as proof-something on every night and several meetings during the day. Of course this proves nothing except that the pastor and the church are being guided by a bad spiritual philosophy. A great many of these time-consuming activities are useless and others plain ridiculous. “But,” say the eager beavers who run the religious squirrel cages, “they provide fellowship and they hold our people together.” … many, perhaps most, of the activities engaged in by the average church do not contribute in any way to the accomplishing of the true work of Christ on earth. (From Christian and Missionary Alliance Pastor A.W. Tozer’s book That Incredible Christian, 1964, pages 168, 169)

Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord. 1 Corinthians 15:58

What I Learned In Church This Week

It’s funny what you think about as you’re sitting in church, as my eyes wandered further down in 1 Timothy chapter 6 trying to be a Berean as I usually do to get the full context of the chapter and book, I read this from Paul to Timothy “O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you, avoiding worldly and empty chatter and the opposing arguments of what is falsely called “knowledge”- which some have professed and thus gone astray from the faith. Grace be with you”. That’s not the funny part, there is nothing funny about guarding the truth, but what struck me as funny is what John Stott said that ran through my head as I was reading 1 Timothy 6:20-21.  How I remembered this I don’t know and where I heard this or read this I couldn’t even tell you. But he said something like this referring to guarding the truth “like a dog worrying over a bone”

I chuckled as I was reading 1 Timothy 6:20-21 thinking of a dog licking a bone, digesting everything about it, not letting any of the juices go to waste, that’s how we are to treat the word of God. Then the dog hides the bone and worries over that bone and guards that bone, he protects that bone, he sleeps with thoughts about that bone. So Paul says “O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you” Just as my dog Luna is resting her eyes, but content that her bone is safe and sound between her front legs and paws. John Calvin said “A dog barks when his master is attacked. I would be a coward if I saw that God’s truth is attacked and yet would remain silent.”

Everybody can’t be right, only the word of God is right, so we guard it, we protect it, but it needs no defending, Spurgeon said Speaking of the word of God “Open the door and let the lion out; he will take care of himself.” Because its active and alive Hebrews 4:12 and it will accomplish what He desires and will not be void Isaiah 55:11 So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.

That’s why Paul commanded Timothy in front of God and Christ ”JUST PREACH THE WORD” 2 Timothy 4:1-3 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: 2 preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,

I get the idea that Paul knew that Timothy would have to deal with teachings that were WRONG and if their wrong they can’t be right… They are opposed to the true word of God, whether coming from different religions or ideologies or even from within the church, where we have this idea that God is JUST love, love and more love, always positive and encouraging with no justice, no wrath, no discipline and no rebuke and no conviction… He just wants to love over everyone! Paul realized that professing Christians had been and will be taken up with these false teaching and ideas that are contrary to the word of God.

I remember when the book The Shack came out, professing Christians flocked to the book store to buy it and it was the talk of the church. I constantly hear christians talking about how they love Joel Osteen and Oprah Winfrey, how the book Love wins have effected their lives. The only book that can effect our lives eternally is the living word of God, these fore-mention books and people are nothing but WRONG! and the “knowledge” they have is something we don’t want. “O Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you”

I love Paul’s trade mark benedictionGrace be with you” If you are just a professing Christian and not a possessing Christian of God’s grace Matthew 7:21-27 , you need God grace to save you, if you indeed are a true believer in Jesus Christ, you need God’s continuing grace upon your life to sustain you and keep you on the straight and narrow path Matthew 7:14. Grace To You, Amen!

MacArthur Monday

I have posted this video before, so being a holiday today I thought for MacArthur Monday we would go back in time with this very much-needed reminder from Dr. MacArthur. John MacArthur is advocating a special, particular kind of discrimination that needs to happen if the Christian church is to remain healthy and pure. It may not be culturally sensitive to say so, but it’s right, and loving too.

Why do you call Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? (Luke 6:46)

“Salvation apart from obedience is unknown in the sacred Scriptures… Apart from obedience there can be no salvation, for salvation without obedience is a self-contradictory impossibility.” A.W. Tozer

The Gospel – Paul Washer

One of the problems in the West is we have no concept anymore of a father’s authority and therefore we cannot understand the work of God in the heart of a man. God looks at His children and he says “You will be clean”. Ezekiel 36:25

Therefore say to the house of Israel, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD, “It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for My holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you went. 23 I will vindicate the holiness of My great name which has been profaned among the nations, which you have profaned in their midst. Then the nations will know that I am the LORD,” declares the Lord GOD, “when I prove Myself holy among you in their sight. 24 For I will take you from the nations, gather you from all the lands and bring you into your own land. 25 Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols. 26 Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27 I will put My Spirit within you and cause you to walk in My statutes, and you will be careful to observe My ordinances. Ezekiel 36:22-27 nasb

What I Learned In Church This Week

I received a big smile from a man after I let out a few big Amen’s in church this past week, but I knew that he knew why! He told me after it was the words that were being sung wasn’t it? I’ve been approached in the past about my Amen’s in Church, so I thought I would write why. Our pastor was quoting the leadership of our denomination about the word of God and how churches are trying to be relevant with other things ( I could give examples here, but will reframe from doing so at this point) instead of just teaching and preaching the word of God. I don’t think I have ever shouted out a louder Amen than I did after hearing that… I said what great truth that is, SO LET IT BE! I agree Amen!

I’m reminded of the words of Warren Wendel Wiersbe a pastor, speaking of the early church “Apparently, saying Amen! in church was not frowned on in those days.” I’m also reminded of the words in the hymn Come, Children, Join to Sing.

Come, Christians, join to sing—
Alleluia! Amen!
Loud praise to Christ our King—
Alleluia! Amen!
Let all, with heart and voice, before His throne rejoice;
praise is His gracious choice: Alleluia! Amen!

You see it all throughout the Old Testament and not just after a prayer, but after something that has just happened or said, like in Jeremiah 11:5 or 1 Chronicles 16:36. In the New Testament you see it after a great doxology like in Ephesians 3:21 or Romans 11:36 or a benediction like Galatians 6:18 or prophecy in Revelation 1:7… Can I get an Amen? I love how the apostle John end the book of Revelation chapter 22 verse 20 He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming quickly.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. Revelation 22:20.

Amen is a Hebrew (âmên, aw-mane’) word meaning “so it is” or “let it be,” derived from a verb meaning “to be firm or sure.” “Truth” But are Amen’s a means of worship? I think so! 1 Corinthians 14 gives us some answers, Otherwise if you bless in the spirit only, how will the one who fills the place of the ungifted say the “Amen” at your giving of thanks, since he does not know what you are saying? 1 Corinthians 14:16.  Here Paul is saying how can a brother say “Amen” yes I agree or so let it be if you speak in tongues and they don’t understand? Paul says tongues are useless in church, speak with words people can be edified with 1 Corinthians 14:19, or as J Vernon McGee said “In other words, say something profitable so a brother can say “amen” to it.”

Now of course I’ve been to church meetings where people attach amen’s to everything and anything that is said, the truth here is that it is to be firm and sure and the truth so you can say Amen so let it be! S Lewis Johnson Says “Then of course, individuals may say “amen.”  I know it’s characteristic of Christians even in our meetings to say amen when they don’t ever understand what’s going on at all.  I’ve been in many meetings, particularly in certain kinds of meetings in which — if you make any decisive statement, you usually can find someone saying amen.” No! Amen is the affirmation, so let it be it is most certainly true!

Well there is much more that could be said, but this is a brief explanation why I will occasionally say a big amen. If I know in my spirit something to be a divine yes, this is truth! you will hear AMEN! and AMEN! SO LET IT BE! What about you, have you ever heard something from His word that was explained to you in truth, then say Amen! You don’t have to shout it out, just praise Him with this affirmation… Again we see it in Revelation 22:20 the church of Jesus Christ can answer with a divine yes! So Let It Be, Amen! Come Lord Jesus!

and that’s a beautiful thing!

MacArthur Monday

“The duty of any faithful exegete of God’s Word is to find out its true meaning and then preach it to the people. In other words, what does the Bible mean if we were dead?”

In 2 Timothy 2:15 it says: “Be diligent.” And it uses a tremendously strong word – “Be diligent to show yourself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Listen, you need to be diligent in your Bible study. Why? So that you can rightly divide it. Because if you don’t you’ll have something to be ashamed about and you will not be approved. Oh, that word approved is a great word – dokimos … dokimos – proven, tested, shown to be of high quality, a high-quality Christian, an approved Christian who has no flaws for which he will be ashamed as one who is diligent to study the Word of God, to cut it straight. The word rightly dividing is to literally cut it straight and Paul was making tents and that was the word he used because he used to make tents out of goatskin and held cut the hides to fit together. He didn’t make one tent out of one goat, there’s no super goat.

So you had to cut little goats and fit them together, see. And he fit all those pieces together and t he diligent part of what Paul is saying is you have to cut straight every portion of the Scripture or the whole doesn’t come together. You can’t make a dress, ladies, when you sew unless every part is right. And in theological terms we Would say you can’t be a theologian unless you’re an exegete. You can’t make sense out of the whole unless you know what to do with the parts. And so you must deal with the Word of God cutting every portion straight and then fitting the whole together. And that takes work. As I told you before, G. Campbell Morgan said – “Ninety five percent of inspiration is perspiration.” It’s work. Dr. John MacArthur

Hermeneutics comes from the Greek word hermeneuo, which means to explain or interpret, it is the branch of theology that focuses on identifying and applying sound principles of biblical interpretation. While the Bible is generally plain in its meaning, proper interpretation requires careful study and is not always an easy task.

Bad Hermeneutics

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
