I’m Back, I’m Rested and I’m Ready

t is always great to go on vacation, to get some rest and relaxation, leaving your life as is and enjoying a week of fun in the sun… But I always look forward to coming back home too. Then immediately you’re right back into the swing of things, your daily routines and the things life brings you and the things you left before you went on vacation are still there. The rejection and persecution you face as a Christian who is outspoken about his faith and his God and Savior and their Word is still there, the struggles of running a small business did not go away, even the fact we left with a crystal-clear pool and came back to a green one was a little annoying too!

Now don’t get me wrong, I loved being on vacation, the time away with my wife and friends was a great time, but just getting up that last morning before we drive home kind of gets me excited to get back into the same old routine we left in. In fact they (the things we left) were there in the driveway, they didn’t go away, in fact they were looking forward to seeing us, here we are just as you left us… So here I am, the same man I was before we left ready to take on this world that we as Christians are just passing through with His strength and with His Word!

The fact that He blessed my wife and I with a vacation was wonderful, and He allowed us to get some rest was great too. The only reading I did while away was the bible, no blogs, no books and no posting on The Bible Christian… Just the bible, I continued my bible reading with Professor Horner’s bible reading plan which has been a true blessing to me. The word of God is where we get our strength and our knowledge, as Job 23:12 says “I have not departed from the command of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

So we’re not alone He is with us, I’m glad I’m back, I’m ready to face the world, I’m ready to battle and contend earnestly for the faith Jude 3 and to guard the truth 1 Timothy 6:20 and to speak His word… But if I say, “I will not remember Him Or speak anymore in His name,” Then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; And I am weary of holding it in, And I cannot endure it. Jeremiah 20:9 then in 1 Timothy 4:15  it says Take pains with these things; be absorbed in them, so that your progress will be evident to all.  In other words give your heart and soul to study the word of God and learn the things of God so that your progress will be evident to all.

I’m back, I’m rested and I’m ready

and that’s a beautiful thing!

MacArthur Monday

Jesus the expositor… Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures. Luke 24:27 Read the entire text in Luke 24:13-32 HERE

I want to begin by reminding you of something that I’m sure you know. But in this context, it suits our understanding of the text to refer to it. The most important reality in the world is truth… Truth… God’s truth… The truth that saves from hell. The most important truth of all.

There’s only one place this truth is found and that is in the Scriptures, the Word of God, the Bible. Only those who understand the Bible can know the truth about salvation and be saved from hell. Only those who know the truth of the Bible can live fulfilled, obedient, blessed, effective, joyful lives. All matters of salvation and sanctification, and all understanding of future glorification is contained in the Bible.

Therefore the greatest service that can ever be rendered to anyone is to explain to them the meaning of the Bible. We call that Bible exposition. That means to explain the meaning of Scripture. To understand Scripture is to understand everything from God’s perspective, the one true view. All of the purposes of God for humanity, all of the purposes of God in history and eternity, all of the purposes of God from beginning to end and top to bottom, the comprehensive view of all things can be known only to those who understand the meaning of Scripture. Therefore, again I say, the greatest service you can render to anyone is to give them an understanding of Scripture.

Listen and watch the rest of sermon below….

Then in Luke 24:32… They said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?”

John Stott says, “All true Christian preaching is expository preaching.” and it all started with Jesus.

and that’s a beautiful thing!

Be sure your sin will find you out

The most visited post to date on The Bible Christian is by far

Be sure your sin will find you out! originally posted on June 25, 2010.

I remember saying to myself that I was very surprised at the number of hits I was getting, but then remembered this one fact.

We all sin!

Be sure your sin will find you out

June 25, 2010

“But if you will not do so, behold, you have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will find you out. Numbers 32:23

When I first read this verse it was a frightening experience for me I mean, my hidden sin in my life is seen… by who ? surely nobody knows… who can read my thought mind ? who can look at my heart ? over and over I would ask this… by who ? nobody knows but me “RIGHT” I couldn’t get this verse out of my mind. be sure your sin will find you out.

Ecclesiastes 12:14 For God will bring every act to judgment, everything which is hidden, whether it is good or evil

Matthew 10:26 “Therefore do not fear them, for there is nothing concealed that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.

1 Corinthians 4:5 Therefore do not go on passing judgment before the time, but wait until the Lord comes who will both bring to light the things hidden in the darkness and disclose the motives of men’s hearts; and then each man’s praise will come to him from God.

Luke 8:17 “For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.

Nobody knows but me “RIGHT” If you’re not sure who sees by now

Jeremiah 23:23-24 “Am I a God who is near,” declares the LORD, “And not a God far off? “Can a man hide himself in hiding places So I do not see him?” declares the LORD. “Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the LORD.

Psalm 139:7 Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?

The answer is nowhere can we go, He sees all thing hidden and brings them to lightWe as Christians are not to think of hidden sins as less serious and even more respectable than the seen sin. Jesus taught differently in the Sermon on the Mount.

Matthew 5:21-22 “You have heard that the ancients were told, ‘YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER’ and ‘Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.’22 “But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.

Matthew 5:28 but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

What did this all teach me… that I was a “BIG” Hypocrite, putting on this mask of holiness as I was keeping sin in the deep parts of my mind and heart.

John MacArthur comment

Those who sin secretly actually intensify their guilt, because they add the sin of hypocrisy to their offense. Hypocrisy is a grave sin in its own right. It also produces an especially debilitating kind of guilt, because by definition hypocrisy entails the concealing of sin. And the only remedy for any kind of sin involves uncovering our guilt through sincere confession. Hypocrisy therefore permeates the soul with a predisposition against genuine repentance. That is why Jesus referred to hypocrisy as “the leaven of the Pharisees” (Luke 12:1).

Hypocrisy also works directly against the conscience. There’s no way to be hypocritical without searing the conscience. So hypocrisy inevitably makes way for the most vile, soul-coloring, character-damaging secret sins. Thus hypocrisy compounds itself, just like leaven. Beware that sort of leaven. No matter who suggests to you that appearances are everything, don’t buy that lie.

As a matter of fact, your secret life is the real litmus test of your character: “As he thinks within himself, so he is” (Prov. 23:7). Do you want to know who you really are? Take a hard look at your private life–especially your innermost thoughts. Gaze into the mirror of God’s Word, and allow it to disclose and correct the real thoughts and motives of your heart.

Confess your sin… your thought mind- your angry… the secret sin that nobody knows…well just God and stop trying to cover them up with hypocrisy… cover then up with the blood of the Lamb and be free. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Hebrew 12:1-2 Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

God’s Love

Well the second most popular post on the Bible Christian is as you can see very dear to my heart.

I remember getting a ton of e-mails from my Church family about the poem my Mom wrote about my Dad.

God’s Love originally posted March 30, 2010.

My Dad was a walking dead man, until Grace altered his life…

and that’s a beautiful thing!

God’s Love

March 30, 2010

Yesterday was the 1 year anniversary of my moms death and the 16 year anniversary of my dad’s death… they both died on March 29th. My mom wrote a poem shortly after my dad’s death. What was so amazing about this poem written in memory of my dad… was the complete transformation God did upon his life.

My dad was a walking dead man in his sin (Ephesians 2:1-4) and now full of cancer… Christ humbled him and transformed his life. Grace and mercy altered my dad’s life (Ephesians 2:4)… and now he and my mom are at the feet of their savior. God’s grace changes lives … Is your life changed?

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come2 Corinthians 5:17

Do you call yourself a Christian? What are you basing it on… A decision you made 20 years ago or a past prayer you prayed… the bible never speaks from the past, always now!

Do you hate your sin and are you confessing that sin? Do you love your Lord and Savior ? Do you desire the things of God? Do you desire His word? Do you desire people to get saved? Do you pray? Do you fellowship with the people of God? Not because you have to… you have a burning desire to do those things… you have been transformed from death to life.

Test your faith… examine it Paul said Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test? 2 Corinthians 13:5

If your not a Christian… fall on your knees and repent… ask God to save you by grace through faith in His Son.

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

Grace and peace to you

Familiarity Breeds Contempt

The third most visited post on the bible Christian is

Familiarity Breeds Contempt originally posted on January 28, 2009

I remember writing this, I was going through some tough times.

This post helped me sort a lot of things out in my head from His word.

Familiarity Breeds Contempt

January 28, 2009

The better we know people, the more likely we are to find fault with them.

I know somebody this happen to, when Jesus returned to His hometown.

Matthew 13:54-58 He came to His hometown and began teaching them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these miraculous powers? 55 “Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary, and His brothers, James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? 56 “And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” 57 And they took offense at Him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.” 58 And He did not do many miracles there because of their unbelief.

Luke says they were full of rage and wanted to throw Him off the cliff.

Luke 4:28-30 And all the people in the synagogue were filled with rage as they heard these things; 29 and they got up and drove Him out of the city, and led Him to the brow of the hill on which their city had been built, in order to throw Him down the cliff. 30 But passing through their midst, He went His way.

What could Jesus have possible said that would bring rage into the hearts of these people He grew up with, that they would want to throw Him off a cliff.

At first they were impressed with Him, the way He talked and the wisdom and clarity of His words. They knew Him they were familiar with Him. They were His relatives and friends.

What happen, What could He possible say to them in His very first sermon or teaching that could turn them away so quickly, that they wanted to kill Him, ANSWER- THE TRUTH- NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH. The first moment He spoke critical and preached hard or taught hard truths, they turned on Him. They wanted the feel good message, the soft message, the felt needs message. They wanted their ears scratched. 2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, gave them the greatest form of love, the truth. “Truth and Love” they are inseparable. Ephesians 4:15 Speaking the truth in love, is not holding back parts of the truth. Paul said, “For I did not shrink from declaring to you the whole purpose of God.” (Acts 20:27) Speaking the truth in love is not watering down the truth, it is to give the pure unadulterated, inerrant word of God, the pure milk of the word 1 Peter 2:1-2  Jesus did not give them what they wanted, He gave them what they needed. The greatest need is TRUTH IN LOVE.

The greatest thing a person can do for a friend, is to look them in the eye’s and give them the truth in love, like Nathan the Prophet looked at David and said “your that man” 2 Samuel 12:7

But these folks weren’t having any of it, they lost out on the truth of God’s word and the truth that would set them free. Which led Jesus to say “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.” So they deprived themselves of further teachings.

Are we guilty in the same way today ?

Are we developing the familiarities today with those who teach the word of God in Truth and Love?

Do we allow our familiarities today to breed contempt, no longer respecting those who preach and teach in truth and love, taking them for granted?

Do we allow our familiarities today to breed contempt, no longer appreciating the word of God or those who teach and preach it?

Only you can answer that, being familiar with the word of God and allowing teachers and preachers to speak the truth in love can only produce blessing that Jesus’ home town folks are wishing they had now.

Finally Jesus was saying to them, “Take care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides.” Mark 4:24

Familiarity Breeds Contempt.

If it does happen to you teacher and preacher you’re in great company.

Grace and Peace to you
in Him who saves -Lenny

24 years ago this April I prayed a prayer

This one was from my heart, 24 years ago this April I prayed a prayer originally posted March 31, 2008

I trusted that the prayer I prayed was going to save me.

Never repenting, never trusting Christ, just the prayer that I repeated from a Pastor.

Now I know it’s all of Christ and His doing….

By grace you have been save, through faith and that’s a beautiful thing!

Now I can say without a doubt I am saved by grace through faith…

and that’s a beautiful thing!!

24 years ago this April I prayed a prayer

March 31, 2008

24 years ago this April, I prayed to received Christ into my heart and to keep myself out of hell. I basically in my mind purchased FIRE INSURANCE I was for awhile excited about my new found so called faith, but soon returned to my old self, my old ways of sin, but I was saved!! just ask me, I can remember having conversations about my salvation with my neighbors being drunk (what a great witness I was) I would say just believe in Jesus and you’ll be saved too.

The bible tells us that Satan and his demons believe in Jesus Mark 5:7 Its much much more than just believing. I asked Jesus to forgive my sins but I never repented, The gift of repentance was never giving to me 2Tim 2:25Romans 2:4 Acts 11:18

I did what I was told, my Mom said do this and I did it, get Baptize now and I did , had no clue why. Never did I have or show fruits of repentance Luke 3:8 What I had was the sorrow of the world not of God 2 Cor 7:10

John the Baptist comes on the sceen and says repent Matt 3:2 Jesus starts His ministry and says repentMark 1:15 He also says in Luke 15:7 “I tell you that in the same way, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance. Peter preaches his first sermon and says repent Acts 2:38 Paul tells the men of Athens to repent Acts 17:30

I loved what my pastor said yesterday its not how good we are its how bad we are. I have come to realize the last few years that my sin is really bad to a Holy God, The book The Holiness of God by RC Sproul had such a profound impact on my life, he showed me from scripture the holiness of God and how far we truly are, but He chose to save me and He gave me the gift of repentance. Not of myself Eph 2:9 but by His mercy not my will Romans 9:16

Now I can say without a doubt I am saved by grace through faith and that’s a beautiful thing!!

If you never have gotten down on your knees and cried out to a holy God and repented and trusted God I pray he gives you that desire TODAY!!! —Lenny

Remembering How To Pray

Today, as I said on Saturday that I would post the top 5 visited posts on the Bible Christian while on vacation.

So here we go #5

Remembering How To Pray originally posted August 25, 2011

I find myself sometimes struggling in my prayer life,

I need to Remember that… Prayer begins with Him.

Remembering How To Pray

August 25, 2011

I find myself sometimes struggling in my prayer life and when I’m struggling in prayer, I most often struggle in my walk with God. I can sense a separation between myself and my God. My repentance and confession is weak 1 John 1:9, my study suffers, my meditation on scripture suffers, and my attitude towards people tends to be negative… though I’m by nature an antithetical person, I tend to really show it. I simply need to remember how to pray… That might sound a little funny to you but its true, I sometime forget how to pray and I need to remember. I need to be told… Jesus said “Pray, then, in this way” Matthew 6:9-13 and shown step by step. The Lord’s Prayer as it’s so often called is a great place to start, though I like to refer to it as The Disciples Prayer and not the Lord’s prayer, that you’ll find in John 17:1-19 The High Priestly Prayer.

It wasn’t until 4 or 5 years ago when I taught through the Sermon On The Mount in Matthew that I really understood how to pray and the prayer that I was reciting for all these years going back to my Catholic days wasn’t really a prayer in its self… But as S Lewis Johnson said “It’s a primer for prayer” It’s a pattern for prayer “Pray, then, in this way” Let me say I don’t think there is anything wrong with reciting this as a prayer all by its self… But in saying that, look just a few verses before it Matthew 6:7 “And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. This prayer is all-inclusive but not as a prayer of repetition but a sketch of true praying. I need to remember that!

What’s Jesus really saying? When you pray, pray using these principles found in Matthew 6:9-13 Jesus did not mean that you are to simply repeat The Lord’s Prayer because He did not pray that way, in fact He would spend all night long in prayer, hour after hour . . . Just communing with His heavenly Father. What I’m saying is I need to remember these principles, I need to get back to that! to what Jesus said. “Pray, then, in this way” Now I’m not saying we take the view of John Wesley who held a poor view of any Christian who did not pray at least four hours every day! I just want to go back to the foundations of prayer… I love the King James Translation “After this manner therefore pray ye” What manner” You pray this way…

  • Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.

The pride that is in me, I sometimes tend to jump right into my needs and forget that I’m praying to my/our Father the God of the universe… I need to stop and realize like Job did in Job 40:4 that I’m insignificant and unworthy compared to God, Because He is holy, so I just praise Him and proclaim who He is… Holy is Your name. If you look at the Prophets of the Old Testament they all begin their prayers with worship to God and praising Him. Only true Christians can pray and call Him Our Father. I need to remember His majesty, His greatness, and His power. Prayer begins with Him. I need to remember that!

  1. “hallowed be Your name”
  2. “Your kingdom come”
  3. “Your will be done”

Today I just want to remember to hallow His name… Hallowed to make holy, to sanctify and to revere. J C Ryle said… By the “name of God we mean all those attributes through which He is revealed to us—His power, wisdom, holiness, justice, mercy and truth. By asking that they may be “hallowed,” we mean that they may be made known and glorified. The glory of God is the first thing that God’s children should desire. It is the object of one of our Lord’s own prayers: “Father, glorify your name!” John 12:28. I need to remember that! Martin Luther asked “How is it God’s name hallowed amongst us?” Answer “When our life and doctrine are truly Christian”

I need to remember that His name is awesome and Holy Psalm 111:9 He has sent redemption to His people; He has ordained His covenant forever; Holy and awesome is His name. What a great time it would be to someday study all the names of God. When I pray I want to pray in this manner and give God the glory… I know that there are areas of my life that His name is “NOT” Hollowed and I’m convicted right this moment as I’m typing to honor His name in my life and walk with Christ.

Our Father you are Holy and awesome is your name… Father Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. Psalm 19:14

The Top Ten Reason why we do Church

The word church is the translation of the Greek word EKKLĒSIA which is made up of two Greek words:

1) EK which means “out, out of ”

2) KLĒSIS which means “a calling” from the verb KALEŌ which means “to call”.

Together we have “a calling out.” Therefore the term “church” (EKKLĒSIA) means an assembly of called-out ones.

Here we go the top ten reasons we do Church……..

10. To care for its own in time of need

2 Cor. Chapters 8-9; 1 Tim. 5:1-16; James 1:27

9. To provide fellowship for believers
Acts 2:42; 1 Cor. 1:9; 2 Cor. 8:4; 13:14; Gal. 2:9; Phil. 1:5; 2:12; 1 John 1:3, 6-7

8. To discipline believers
1 Cor. 5:12-13; 2 Cor. 2:6

7. To edify believers
1 Cor. 14:16; Eph. 4:11-12, 16; 1 Thess. 5:11; 2 Pet. 3:18; Jude 20

6. To instruct believers
Matt. 28:19; Phil. 4:8-9; 1 Tim. 4:6; 5:17; 2 Tim. 2:2, 24-25

5. To baptize believers
Matt. 28:19

4. To evangelize the world
Matt. 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:47; Acts 1:8

3. To display God’s grace
Eph. 2:7; 3:6, 10; 1 Pet. 2:9

2. To glorify God
Eph. 1:5-6, 11-12, 14; 3:21; 2 Thess. 1:12

and the number one reason we do Church is

1. To love God and our Lord Jesus Christ… Loving God and our Lord Jesus Christ forever, never-never losing our first love… ‘But I have this against you, that you have left your first love. Revelation 2:4

Do you really Love Jesus Christ?

Go back and remember your first love Revelation 2:5 Remember how you lived before Christ saved you and how He changed your life.

Remember how excited you were to tell people about Christ, to read and study your bible.

Is there anything or anyone you love more than Christ? Go back to how you were right after He saved you and rekindle your love for Christ.

Making Church and your life ABOUT Christ, letting your deeds and church activities flow from your love for Him and His love for you!

Remember your first love in all you do, who gave His life for you!

When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory. Colossians 3:4
