My Bride, My Wife and My Friend

Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor. 10 For if either of them falls, the one will lift up his companion. But woe to the one who falls when there is not another to lift him up. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

I still remember that September morning back in 1979 when I first saw her walk up the junior class hallway in high school… I knew then that this beautiful girl was going to be mine and soon after she was. I took a turn for the better that day, I believe by the providence of God my life was change forever and Maria was going to be a huge part of it, and to think we’ve been together ever since is truly amazing to me. I have always believed God directs our paths, so to Him be the glory!

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday

It was just a little over three years later we married at twenty and this june will be our thirtieth wedding anniversary. You see it was Maria that God used to alter my life from the wrong path I was heading down and It was the grace of God that altered both our lives from death to life and saved us for eternity with Him. We have always done it together, all the good times, all the bad times, all the hardship and suffering we’ve been through, it was together and only by God’s grace and strength we get through it together…  to God be the glory!

Today my wife turns, well she says she’s still 49 so you do the math, that way I can say I didn’t say a word.

I don’t know who wrote this but who ever you are thank you…

So to my bride, my wife and my friend…

A friend is
someone who is concerned
with everything you do…

A friend is
someone who is concerned
with everything you think

A friend is
someone to call upon
during good times

A friend is
someone to call upon
during bad times

A friend is
someone who understands
whatever you do

A friend is
someone who tells you the truth
about yourself

A friend is
someone who knows
what you are going through at all times

A friend is
someone who refuses to listen
to gossip about you

A friend is
someone who supports you
at all times

A friend is
someone who does not
compete with you

A friend is
someone who is genuinely happy for you
when things go well

A friend is
someone who tries to cheer you up
when things don’t go well

A friend is
an extension of yourself
without which
you are not complete

Thank you for being my friend

Happy Birthday

I Love You Maria!

and that’s a beautiful thing!

Jesus Christ is Lord!

tozer

Salvation comes not by “accepting the finished work” or “deciding for Christ.”
It comes by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ!

The discredited doctrine of a divided Christ goes like this: “Christ is both Savior and Lord.A sinner may be saved by accepting Him as Savior without yielding to Him as Lord.”

Christ’s saviorhood is forever united to His lordship. Christ must be Lord or He will not be Savior.

To teach that Christ will use His sacred power to further our worldly interests is to wrong our Lord and injure our own souls. We modern evangelicals need to learn the truths of the sovereignty of God and the lordship of Christ. God will not play along with Adam; Christ will not be used by any of Adam’s selfish brood.

We had better learn these things fast if this generation of young Christians is to be spared the supreme tragedy of following a Christ who is merely a Christ of convenience and not the true Lord of glory after all. (Taken from, The Root of the Righteous)

There is not an inch of any sphere of life of which Jesus Christ the Lord does not say, “Mine.” Abraham Kuyper

For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9, 10 and 11

More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, Philippians 3:8

Jesus Christ is Lord!

and that’s a beautiful thing!

God’s Holiness

RCsproul“Loving a holy God is beyond our moral power. The only kind of God we can love by our sinful nature is an unholy god, an idol made by our own hands. Unless we are born of the Spirit of God, unless God sheds His holy love in our hearts, unless He stoops in His grace to change our hearts, we will not love Him… To love a holy God requires grace, grace strong enough to pierce our hardened hearts and awaken our moribund souls.”

Taken from: The Holiness of God, by R.C. Sproul.

Holiness Starts

Dr. John MacArthur“Without such a vision of God’s holiness, true worship is not possible. Worship is not giddy. It does not rush into God’s presence unprepared and insensitive to His majesty. It is not shallow, superficial, or flippant. Worship is life lived in the presence of an infinitely righteous and omnipresent God by one utterly aware of His holiness and consequently overwhelmed with his own unholiness… If you have never worshiped God with a broken and contrite spirit, you’ve never fully worshiped God, because that is the only appropriate response to entering the presence of Holy God.”

The Best News In The World

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!

I remember sitting there listen to the Curse Motif of the Atonement from R.C.Sproul at the together for the gospel conference in Louisville in 2008 and in that he talked about this Hymn- Joy To The World and the third stanza being his favorite part, since then I have fallen in love with Joy to the world.

That’s the good news… Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Far as the curse is found,

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; Luke 2:10

1 O sing to the Lord a new song,
For He has done wonderful things,
His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him.
2 The Lord has made known His salvation;
He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations.
3 He has remembered His lovingkindness and His faithfulness to the house of Israel;
All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4 Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth;
Break forth and sing for joy and sing praises.
5 Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
With the lyre and the sound of melody.
6 With trumpets and the sound of the horn
Shout joyfully before the King, the Lord.
7 Let the sea roar and all it contains,
The world and those who dwell in it.
8 Let the rivers clap their hands,
Let the mountains sing together for joy
9 Before the Lord, for He is coming to judge the earth;
He will judge the world with righteousness
And the peoples with equity.  Psalm 98:1-9

Joy to the world, the Lord is come!
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare Him room,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven and nature sing,
And Heaven, and Heaven, and nature sing.

Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

Joy to the world,
the Lord is come!
Far as the curse is found

and that’s a beautiful thing!

Have a blessed Christmas

The Real Christmas Story

The Great Exchange

The Christmas message is that there is hope for a ruined humanity – hope of pardon, hope of peace with God, hope of glory – because at the Father’s will Jesus became poor, and was born in a stable so that thirty years later He might hang on a cross. ~J.I. Packer

Here’s a side to the Christmas story that isn’t often told: Those soft little hands, fashioned by the Holy Spirit in Mary’s womb, were made so that nails might be driven through them. Those baby feet, pink and unable to walk, would one day walk up a dusty hill to be nailed to a cross. That sweet infant’s head with sparkling eyes and eager mouth was formed so that someday men might force a crown of thorns onto it. That tender body, warm and soft, wrapped in swaddling clothes, would one day be ripped open by a spear. Jesus was born to die.

If we could condense all the truths of Christmas into only three words, these would be the words: “God with us.” We tend to focus our attention at Christmas on the infancy of Christ. The greater truth of the holiday is His deity. More astonishing than a baby in the manger is the truth that this promised baby is the omnipotent Creator of the heavens and the earth! ~John MacArthur (From God With Us)

It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all. 16 Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal life. 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. 1 Timothy 1:15-17

It was Athanasius who said….

He became what we are
that He might make us
what He is.

and that’s a beautiful thing!

I will meditate in Thy precepts

Spurgeon's Morning and Evening Devotions October 12 Morning

Spurgeon’s Morning and Evening Devotions October 12 Morning

I will meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways. Psalm 119:15

There are times when solitude is better than society, and silence is wiser than speech. We should be better Christians if we were more alone, waiting upon God, and gathering through meditation on His Word spiritual strength for labour in His service. We ought to muse upon the things of God, because we thus get the real nutriment out of them. Truth is something like the cluster of the vine: if we would have wine from it, we must bruise it; we must press and squeeze it many times. The bruiser’s feet must come down joyfully upon the bunches, or else the juice will not flow; and they must well tread the grapes, or else much of the precious liquid will be wasted.

So we must, by meditation, tread the clusters of truth, if we would get the wine of consolation therefrom. Our bodies are not supported by merely taking food into the mouth, but the process which really supplies the muscle, and the nerve, and the sinew, and the bone, is the process of digestion. It is by digestion that the outward food becomes assimilated with the inner life. Our souls are not nourished merely by listening awhile to this, and then to that, and then to the other part of divine truth. Hearing, reading, marking, and learning, all require inwardly digesting to complete their usefulness, and the inward digesting of the truth lies for the most part in meditating upon it.

Why is it that some Christians, although they hear many sermons, make but slow advances in the divine life? Because they neglect their closets, and do not thoughtfully meditate on God’s Word. They love the wheat, but they do not grind it; they would have the corn, but they will not go forth into the fields to gather it; the fruit hangs upon the tree, but they will not pluck it; the water flows at their feet, but they will not stoop to drink it. From such folly deliver us, O Lord, and be this our resolve this morning, “I will meditate in Thy precepts.”

O Lord, and be this our
resolve this morning,
I will meditate in Thy precepts

and that’s a beautiful thing!
Soli Deo Gloria

Mary Queen of heaven or sinner?

Mary Queen of heaven or sinnerI remember sitting there like it was yesterday, the idolatry was overwhelming at times. My plan from the beginning was to flee from the scene as soon as I could. But I was there for my nephews wedding and he had ask me to do a reading and I immediately said yes without realizing it was from a Roman Catholic prayer-book. Can I just back out now or could I use it for a chance to give the gospel of Jesus Christ to the entire left side of the church where the bride’s family was sitting and mostly Romans Catholic.

So they sent me the prayer I was to read and I worked the entire night before the wedding and rewrote the prayer and took out the part about purgatory, and included our sin, repentance, our need for Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. I remember getting there and the priest trying to hand me the prayer I was going to need as he was a little controlling, I told him I have all I need here and padded my front pocket of my suit jacket.

It was my turn to get up in front of 100 people, most of who I don’t know and read something that might cause a few feathers to be ruffled, you see Romans Catholics know their prayers well and they were about to do a responsive reading about their need to repent and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

I started to walk up the stairs to the altar and something caught my eyes above me, it was Mary, she was elevated above Jesus and the words written on the ceiling were Queen of the Most Holy Rosary or “Queen of Heaven”.

I don’t know what came over me, but I complete cut off the priest from talking and starting my responsive reading that I rewrote and walked off and sat back down, just staring at the ceiling and Mary being crowned Queen of heaven.

Is Mary Queen of heaven or sinner?

Lets let her answer that question….

GOD WITH USAnd Mary said: “My soul exalts the Lord, 47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
48 “For He has had regard for the humble state of His bondslave;
For behold, from this time on all generations will count me blessed.
49 “For the Mighty One has done great things for me;
And holy is His name. Luke 1:46-49

My hopeJ. Vernon McGee writes this…

“Now Mary sings a song. This is known as the Magnificat. This song teaches us several interesting things. Mary tells us in her song that she needed a Savior and that she rejoiced in Him. Protestant friend, let us call her blessed. We don’t make her a goddess and kneel before her, but we do need to call her blessed. It was her glorious privilege to be the mother of the Son of God, to bring Him into the world. We should not play it down, but we should not play it up either. She was a wonderful person, and it was no accident that she was chosen by God. It was His definite decision, and God makes no mistakes.”

Mary wanted God to have all the praise and glory! She was sinful and in need of a Savior as we read “And my spirit has rejoiced in God my SaviorFor the Mighty One has done great things for me;  And holy is His name.“

Mary Queen of Heaven? No!

Sinner made saint by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ

And holy is His name.

and that’s a beautiful thing!

Who Were the Wise Men?

Who Were the Wise Men?

Who were the wise men? Are you ready for that? Matthew chapter 2. All of us have wondered. I remember when I was a little boy I wondered who those guys were. How many were there? Were they really kings? Did they really ride camels?

Why did they come to Bethlehem? And, as Paul said, we have most of our ideas about this fascinating group from the people who draw Christmas cards rather than theologians. Vincent, who has written some very helpful word studies says in regard to this, “Many absurd traditions and guesses respecting these visitors to our Lord’s cradle have found their way into popular belief and into Christian art. They were said to be kings and three in number. John MacArthur

Here is a three part series to help you to answer that question…  Who Were the Wise Men?

Who Were the Wise Men?

Fools and Wise Men, Part 1

Fools and Wise Men, Part 2

Dr. MacArthur writes… Isn’t it exciting to you how God controls history. Does that excite you? Now see, you looked at every-thing I said and you listened to it and I talked to you for fifty minutes and you know why it was so fascinating to you? Not because it was just a bunch of historical facts but because you were seeing God at work History is His story. Long ago He picked out a man named Daniel, put him in a place to influence some men who had arrived in perfect timing.

Freedom of the Will or Freeness of Grace?

Freeness of Grace

“A man is not saved against his will, but he is made willing by the operation of the Holy Ghost. A mighty grace which he does not wish to resist enters into the man, disarms him, makes a new creature of him, and he is saved.”C.H. Spurgeon

What I Learned This Past Week

heartIssueThe events that happened in Connecticut this past week reminds me of the sinfulness of sin and effects of the fall in Genesis 3 and how there needs to be an urgency for the gospel of Jesus Christ as the only cure for it.

Below are some links to help us put it into perspective.

“If trifles are vital parts of divine providence, what of evil? Evil is often vastly significant. The most important event which ever occurred was, in one aspect, horribly evil. The crucifixion of Jesus from the standpoint of the crucifiers was grotesquely wicked. Yet, even though the killing of Christ was atrocity itself, what event was so vital and its effects so beneficial as the death of Christ? If God’s providence does not include evil, it does not include the most important event which has ever taken place.” (John Gerstner Theology for Everyman, Moody, 1965, Chapter 2.)

The Heart of the Bible

The Heart of the Bible

Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’; Isaiah 46:9,10

The Lord has established
His throne in the heavens,
And His sovereignty rules
over all. Psalm 103:19
