How Can A Man Be Right With God?

I love this from the folks at I’ll Be Honest. How can a sinner be right with God on judgment day?

What is the only way to heaven? How Can A Man Be Right With God?

The Heart of the Bible

The Heart of the Bible

Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure;
Save from wrath and make me pure.

Not the labor of my hands
Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears forever flow,
All for sin could not atone;
Thou must save, and Thou alone.

Nothing in my hand I bring,
Simply to the cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress;
Helpless look to Thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly;
Wash me, Savior, or I die.

While I draw this fleeting breath,
When mine eyes shall close in death,
When I soar to worlds unknown,
See Thee on Thy judgment throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.

Thou must save, and Thou alone.

and that’s a beautiful thing!

MacArthur Monday-Triumphant Prayer

Dr. John MacArthurThis morning, as we turn now to the Word of God, I want you to look in Scripture to one of the most sacred of all passages, Luke chapter 22 verses 39 through 46…Luke 22 verses 39 through 46. I want to read this passage, it is simple, straightforward, clear, unmistakable and yet it contains profundities and mysteries the likes of which we will never understand.

Verse 39, speaking of our Lord Jesus, it says, “And He came out and proceeded, as was His custom, to the Mount of Olives and the disciples also followed Him. And when He arrived at the place, He said to them, ‘Pray that you may not enter into temptation.’ And He withdrew from them about a stone’s throw and He knelt down and began to pray, saying, ‘Father, if Thou art willing, remove this cup from Me, yet not My will but Thine be done.’ Now an angel from heaven appeared to Him strengthening Him. And being in agony, He was praying very fervently and His sweat became like drops of blood falling down upon the ground. And when He rose from prayer, He came to the disciples and found them sleeping from sorrow, and said to them, ‘Why are you sleeping? Rise and pray that you may not enter into temptation.’”

Listen and watch the entire sermon below.

Four Features of Triumphant Prayer (Luke 22:39-46) John MacArthur

The last temptation is done. The cup is in His hand. He’s about to drink it. And the cup is not trembling. No wonder P.P. Bliss (?) wrote, “Man of sorrows, what a name. For the Son of God who came. Ruined sinners to reclaim. Hallelujah what a Savior.”

Hallelujah what a Savior

and that’s a beautiful thing!

Can you trust the Bible?

my Bible and IThe best evidence of the Bible’s being the word of God is to be found between its covers. It proves itself. (Charles Hodge)

How did the early Church ever function without the “expertise” we have today? Yet those Christians turned the world upside down (Acts 17:6), and they did it without any celebrity testimonies, without modern management techniques, without psychotherapy, without mass media, and without most of the means the contemporary church seems to view as essential. All they had was God’s Word and the power of His Spirit, but they knew that was sufficient. (John MacArthur Bible-Believing Doubters from Our Sufficiency in Christ)

Bible-WhiteBackground.jpegEven though (the Bible) is an ancient document, every person in every situation in every society that’s ever existed can find in this book things that endure forever. Here’s a book that never needs another edition. It never needs to be edited, never has to be updated, is never out of date or obsolete. It speaks to us as pointedly and directly as it ever has to anyone in any century since it was written. It’s so pure that it lasts forever. (John MacArthur You Can Trust the Bible)

Disability and the Gospel

Jack EstrellaSanctity of human life Sunday was this past Sunday and I can’t help but to think about the disabled people in my life, like my brother Joey (someday soon I would like to introduce you to him) and my friend’s son who attends our church.

My friend Matt told me recently that 1 out of 88 kids are born with some form of Autism, I was shocked… That’s why I appreciate my church on this issue because we’re going in the right direction. I couldn’t help but hear and see Jack as the speaker this past Sunday talked about abortion, to hear him (Jack) was music to my ears and to see him standing (because Jacks not sitting folks) up front was wonderful and just the way God wants it and that folks is a beautiful thing!

The words in this video are from Joni Eareckson Tada, she also writes the forward to this book from Michael S. Beates Disability and the Gospel: How God Uses Our Brokenness to Display His Grace. I have not read it yet, but I plan on adding it to my list of must reads.

Jack you are fearfully and wonderfully made!

My politics, The Lord reigns!

John NewtonThe whole system of my politics is summed up in this one verse, “The Lord reigns! Let the nations tremble!” Psalm 99:1

The times look awfully dark indeed; and as the clouds grow thicker — the stupidity of the nation seems proportionally to increase. If the Lord had not a remnant here, I would have very formidable apprehensions. But He loves His children; some are sighing and mourning before Him, and I am sure He hears their sighs, and sees their tears. I trust there is mercy in store for us at the bottom; but I expect a shaking time before things get into a right channel — before we are humbled, and are taught to give Him the glory.

The state of the nation, the state of the churches — both are deplorable! Those who should be praying — are disputing and fighting among themselves! Alas! how many professors are more concerned for the mistakes of government — than for their own sins!

Abortion-On-Demand

Nathham Bingham at Ligoneir Ministries blog has posted yesterdays and todays Renewing Your Mind airings, it was a discussion between Dr. R.C. Sproul and special guest, Dr. John MacArthur, on the moral crisis and national tragedy of abortion-on-demand in our country.

Dr. Sproul organized this discussion after reading a transcript of a sermon from Dr. MacArthur on this important issue. Grateful for the courage with which Dr. MacArthur proclaimed the clear teaching of Scripture, Dr. Sproul was committed to getting this message into as many people’s hands as possible.

MacArthur Monday- The story of Jonah

Dr. John MacArthurThe story of Jonah takes place at the outset in the midst of this storm. And before we look at the storm, let’s go back to the beginning of the book, just briefly, and see the prophet commissioned, verse 1 and 2. “The Word of the Lord came to Jonah, son of Amittai saying, ‘Arise, go to Nineveh the great city and cry against it, for their wickedness has come up before me.’”

The prophet here is commissioned to go and cry against the city of Nineveh. The mandate is clear, unmistakable–preach a message of judgment, preach a message of warning. Tell them that God is going to judge them. Nineveh is the capital city of the Assyrian Empire. And this is his commission.

Now we all know his response. He goes the other direction. We read in verse 3, “Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. So he went down to Joppa on the coast of Israel, found a ship which was going to Tarshish, paid the fare and went down into it to go with them to Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.” Now that was his response. His reaction is to get out, to run the other direction, to flee as far away as he can possibly go. He doesn’t want anything to do with going to Nineveh and preaching to the Ninevites. So he runs, absolutely the opposite direction that God told him to go. He has no interest in obeying God whatsoever.

Why? He’s a racist, basically. He’s a racist with a rotten attitude.

Watch and listen to the rest below…

Jonah: The World’s Greatest Fish Story

Those three truths then are the heart of the gospel, the heart of the gospel. God is the Creator of all of us. We have sinned against our Creator. Wrath and judgment has been pronounced upon us. But we have been given the gospel, which offers us forgiveness through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. You really see the gospel in the heart of God in the story of Jonah. The Creator God, sinned against, warns about judgment and fully forgives those who repent and embrace Him.

Cheating To Be Great

john-the-baptistI couldn’t help but to compare some of the most flamboyant, popular pastors who run these mega churches with programs and a circus atmosphere and all the recent athletes that have been caught cheating to be great. Eventually you will get caught, eventually your athletic greatness will be seen as a big lie, eventually your lack of the knowledge of who God is and His word will find you out…

Or as Numbers 32:23 says “Be sure your sin will find you out.

What ever happened to simple hard work to be great? I look at John the Baptist and why Jesus called him the greatest man born of women, and why was that? He had the greatest job and privilege in the world Luke 3:3, 4, 5 and 6 preparing the way for Jesus our Lord and Savior! It was through preaching repentance and remission of sins.

Jesus said in Matthew 11:11 “Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist! Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

CheatingThose people who you’re called to preach to and are being convicting of sin can be even greater than John because to be in the kingdom of God is greater than to announce its arrival. That’s what Jesus was saying and that’s a beautiful thing!

You might be considered popular and great… You might be known as a great motivational speaker dealing with only people’s felt needs and what makes them happy… You might have 15,000, 20,000 or even 40,000 people hearing you talk a big talk, but faith comes by hearing a word from God Romans 10:17 and how will people hear without being preached too?

Cheating to be great, be careful your sin will find you out… You shall assuredly be punished for your sin James 3:1. I say all this knowing the Sovereignty of God in the salvation of the lost, but He has set a formula in place….

Romans 10:13-15 says for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!”

Just bring the Good News

and that’s a beautiful thing!

Who Buys Truth, And Does Not Sell It?

Buy truth, and do not sell it, Get wisdom and instruction and understanding. Proverbs 23:23

intrepidtruthI read those words this morning during my time in the word and I couldn’t help but to think of my Mom who always told me to, with great eagerness examine the Scriptures Acts 17:11, to diligently present myself before God as a workman, work hard at it, as not to be ashamed before God. 2 Timothy 2:15.

To grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Peter 3:18.  It should to be desired more than honey and pure gold Psalm 19:9, 10. To be a God pleaser and not a man pleaser… but just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who examines our hearts.  1 Thessalonians 2:4

Do we buy it with money? No, I can tell you it’s free… I believe here it means to get it at any cost.

What are the cost? That depends on you and how far you are willing to go to obtain truth, wisdom. instruction and understanding. Are you willing to sell everything to get it Matthew 13:44-46, to lose friendships and offices to keep it, to have contempt poured on you Luke 4:28, 29?

Are you willing to be picked on and pointed out as a closed-minded, dogmatic, antithetical non-conformist?

Are you willing to be that one intrepid who stand up for truth in the face of opposition?

If you are, then

Buy truth, and do not sell it

and that’s a beautiful thing!
