Yesterday in Church we celebrated Sanctity Of Human Life; one of our members is the Director of Carenet of CNY. She talked about Carenet and all they do for the work of the Lord… She shared a video and had a former client, who also regularly attends our Church give her testimony and it was powerful… She talked about how she went to Carenet pregnant and decided to have her baby. You could see how God worked His sovereign and irresistible grace throughout her life… Not only did He save her baby, He saved her soul. So, I urge any who might be reading this post to click on the above link and support this wonderful ministry.
I got to thinking that there’s more to be said… there are so many people with disease and physical and mental handicaps, what about them? The scripture was Psalm 139:13-14 For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. Are they fearfully and wonderfully made? Did God form their inward parts? How wonderful is God’s work in their lives?
But what really struck a chord in my heart while I was singing the first hymn was – I noticed a dear friend and brother holding his son in his arms… his son’s name is Jack (Jack Estrella to be exact) and Psalm 139 hit me like a ton of bricks. You see, Jack has Autism and he is fearfully and wonderfully made by the same sovereign God who saved that wonderful clients baby I previously talked about. God made Jack and I want to celebrate his life today… I have had many conversations with Jacks dad, Matt and he is a changed man because of Jack. It’s my conviction that Jack has altered the lives of not only his parents and sister but also whoever may have the honor and privilege to know this little boy.
My wife and I often say how we’re in awe of both Matt and Amie and the grace God has given them to have and I must say, to handle Jack and raise him… They are wonderful examples to us all, I don’t know all the details but I know some and it’s not easy for them. They never-never give up on Jack and the hope they both have in Christ. The extraordinary love these two people have for their kids and the grace God has given them… Especially Amie! Matt has told me many times how God has blessed him with a wonderful wife… To see her with Jack is just pure God honoring grace.
God has a purpose in allowing Jack to be Autistic… For His glory… I can only go to God’s word, mine would be incomplete. God said to Paul “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 Dealing with trials and suffering is not easy and can be weary at times… As one writer states, it draws us to God making you more obedient Psalm 119:67 deepens your insight into God’s Word Psalm 119:71 increases your compassion and effectiveness in ministry 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 teaches you to wait patiently on God Psalm 27:14 and makes your joy less dependent on circumstances Habakkuk 3:16-19
I can only imagine the mental, physical exhaustion and suffering the Estrella’s go through at times… The Apostle Paul has some comfort for you regarding your future with Christ Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. I love what A.W.Tozer said regarding our Trials, sufferings and problems we face as Christians ” What then are we to do about our problems? We must learn to live with them until such time as God delivers us from them. We must pray for grace to endure them without murmuring. Problems patiently endured will work for our spiritual perfecting. They harm us only when we resist them or endure them unwillingly”
I love that we have such a God honoring ministry as Carenet and that they are so passionate about the unborn and the gospel of Jesus Christ. I also, am so honored to know this little boy… His name is Jack Estrella – set apart by God for His glory! There is never going to be another Jack; he is fearfully and wonderfully made by God and for God.
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen. Romans 11:36
