Welcome to our Monday morning look back to what I learned in church yesterday. This is where I look back to the Lord’s day and share some thoughts about church. Could be many things but mostly Sunday School. This is never an exhausted look back, but rather highlighting important parts of the word of God. We are in a serious study of the book of Romans in Sunday School. It never ceases to amaze me how God is so faithful when it comes to His word… How clear it can be, and even when it seems difficult how it becomes clear after a little searching and digging into the text.
I think I talked a little too much yesterday… But I was so excited to teach what I learned about the Old Testament concerning Christ. We left last week with this… That God’s gospel is good news, but it’s not new news. So we tackled Romans 1:2, 3 which He promised beforehand through His prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning His Son, who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh,
It is surprising how many people don’t know how people were saved in the Old Testament. I was one of them for years… Until I got serious with studying the bible. It’s there! Salvation by faith throughout the Old Testament… Then there’s types and symbols like Noah’s Ark to the serpent of brass and the sacrificial system. Here are some Scripture about Christ in the O.T Deuteronomy 18:15 Isaiah 7:14 Hebrews 1:1-4 Look at Luke 24:27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures. Meaning the Old Testament… Can you imagine being those people sitting and listening to Christ as he explains Himself in the O.T I would love to have been there.
Peter says this in 1 Peter 1:10-12 As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow. It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven-things into which angels long to look.
The gospel is good news about Him a Person… The Lord Jesus Christ, It’s not a denomination, or a man-made slogan or a set of rules. It’s not Mary or the Pope. It’s not a religious institution… It’s all about Him! Paul commanded Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:8 To Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descendant of David, according to my gospel,
Remember is in the present imperative, meaning keep on remembering Jesus Christ risen from the dead (shows His deity) and finally (His humanity) being a descendant of David. Romans 1:3 Who was born of a descendant of David according to the flesh, Isaiah mentioned David when he prophesied of the Messiah writing that For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 Then in Isaiah 9: 7 “He will reign on David’s throne”
The Good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
2 Corinthians 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
