A little of this and a little of that

Why Impostors Love the Church… By Russel D. Moore… Recently I read a book that kept me awake a couple of nights. It was about “Clark Rockefeller,” and the scare quotes are important. The man was neither “Clark” nor “Rockefeller.” He was a German immigrant who crafted an identity as an heir of one of America’s wealthiest dynasties. He married, fathered a child, and was involved in fraud, theft, and maybe even murder. And no one ever knew, until the very end. Read the rest Here

How Can We Tell If Our Repentance Is Deep Enough? by Phil Johnson… It’s impossible to judge the depth of someone’s conviction or the genuineness of a believer’s penitence based on the potency of an emotional reaction alone. If the question is whether your repentance is genuine or not, I personally think what you “feel” emotionally has very little significance. Judas wept bitterly; Esau shed many tears. Neither of them truly repented. By contrast, the thief on the cross seemed almost stoically resigned to his fate. But there was enough genuine repentance in his dying plea that Jesus assured him of salvation on the spot. Read the rest Here

What are you wearing to Church? By yours truly… I love the funny comment from my friend Matt, Mr. Cuban Goes To Washington… I was watching ESPN Sports Center one night and they showed the Dallas Maverick NBA team at the White House, they received an audience with the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama for winning the NBA Championship. That is not abnormal at all, most teams that win a championship receive a trip to the White House and an audience with the President. But what struck me as I was watching this was Mark Cuban in a suit and tie, I tried to remember if I had ever seen him in a suit. So I google him and It was hard pressed to see him in anything but jeans and a T-shirt or the Dallas Mavericks apparel. There are a few shots of him in a sports jacket, but those are few compared to what we are accustomed to seeing him in. Read the rest Here

Pray For Your Pastor To Have Unction! by Stephen Altrogge… It’s a term that sounds vaguely medical, as in, “I went to the doctor today and he told me that I have a bad case of unction in my lower GI tract.” Or it sounds like a term my mechanic would throw at me: “Yeah man, your unction piston is cracked right down the middle and we’re going to need to replace the entire engine block.” Read the rest Here

Something Deadly This Way Comes — “After-Birth Abortion” by Albert Mohler… The debate over abortion comes down to one essential issue — the moral status of the unborn child. Those making the case for the legalization of abortion argue that the developing fetus lacks a moral status that would trump a woman’s desire to abort the child. Those arguing against abortion do so by making the opposite claim; that the unborn child, precisely because it is a developing human being, possesses a moral status by the very fact of its human existence that would clearly trump any rationale offered for its willful destruction. March 8th was International Women’s Day, so I thought I would post The Ultimate Meaning of True Womanhood by John Piper… Before I launch into it, I want to thank Nancy Leigh DeMoss for trusting me with this amazing privilege. I do not take this for granted. This is most remarkable that I would be given the privilege to address the most influential people in the world. There is massive power in this room, so I do not take lightly this moment, and I ask that you would be silently praying that I wouldn’t blow it. Read and watch the rest Here
