Prayer Meetings

We had a prayer meeting last night and I always come away as though I accomplished something of spiritual value, well actually not I but the Holy Spirit who lives in me… There is nothing like meeting for prayer with fellow believers. I love coming to our prayer meetings because I know prayer is going to be important to the ones that are there. No I’m not saying prayer is unimportant to those who don’t come, I’m just saying corporate prayer is important for the Church of Christ. The prayer meetings I like best is where there is only praise and prayer lifted up to God, leaving no room for us to involve our human self, just praise to God and prayer to God.

Just after Christ ascension we find ourselves in the upper room, and we read…

Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a Sabbath day’s journey away. 13 When they had entered the city, they went up to the upper room where they were staying; that is, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon the Zealot, and Judas the son of James. 14 These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. Acts 1:12-14

Robert Murry McCheyne said…

“Meet weekly, at a convenient hour. Be regular in attendance. Let nothing keep you away from your meeting. Pray in secret before going. Let your prayers in the meeting be formed as much as possible upon what you have read in the Bible. You will thus learn variety of petition, and a Scripture style. Pray that you may pray to God, and not for the ears of man. Feel his presence more than man’s. Pray for the outpouring of the Spirit on the church of Christ and for the world; for the purity and unity of God’s children; for the raising up of godly ministers, and the blessing of those that are so already. Pray for the conversion of your friends, of your neighbours, of the whole town. Pray for the sending of the gospel to the Jews, and to the Gentile nations.” (MEMOIR AND REMAINS)

I believe we did just that last night, I also believe that prayer is a crucial part of any church, and tomorrow I want to help you see through scripture that meeting together for prayer is important and vital for the church of Christ, for you and for your fellow believer.

Edward McKendree (E. M.) Bounds said…

“What the Church needs to-day is not more machinery or better, not new organizations or more and novel methods, but men whom the Holy Spirit can use — men of prayer, men mighty in prayer. The Holy Spirit does not flow through methods, but through men. He does not come on machinery, but on men. He does not anoint plans, but men — men of prayer.”

Soli Deo Gloria

AMEN Lenny. Prayer is what keeps us strong and connected to God as well as to our Brothers and Sisters in Christ. I come away knowing that He is there and listening.

    In Christ
