They were devoting themselves to prayer… That seems to be the prevailing theme throughout the book of Acts, as I shared with you yesterday These all with one mind were continually devoting themselves to prayer, along with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. Acts 1:14
Churches pray together, I wanted to continue that thought today, but unforeseen circumstances have prevented me from finishing up my study in the book of Acts. That will come tomorrow morning instead, you will see all throughout the history of the Church they prayed together. Then Paul in so many of his epistle said “Pray!”
Here is a little taste on the word devoted… It comes from the greek word antecmai (an-tekh’-om-ahee) it means to hold before or against, hold back, withstand, endure to keep one’s self directly opposite to any one, hold to him firmly, cleave to, paying heed to him. In the NIV it says (They all joined together constantly in prayer).
They were continually devoting… You will see that is a practice the Church has done all throughout the book of Acts, and just as men began to call upon the name of the LORD Genesis 4:26… That continues in the book of Acts and it should continue in every Church that calls Him Lord.
The popularity of a CHURCH is measured by its Sunday morning attendance and the popularity of the PREACHER by its Sunday evening attendance. However, the popularity of the LORD is measured at the prayer meeting. ~unknown
To be continued tomorrow…
Soli Deo Gloria
