This past week in Church was a Romans, Galatians and Philippians kind of day, as my Pastor is preaching through the book of Galatians and our Sunday School class was filled with references from Galatians and Philippians as we are taking up Abraham in Romans 4 and the doctrine of justification… Then you throw in the book of Jonah in another Sunday school class… I don’t know about you, but when the Church of Jesus Christ is filled with the word of God being preached and taught… When the word of God is center of the worship service, two things happen. First, people are changed and second and more important God and His word is glorified.
We have this really brief small mission statement that I really like in our church, simply put WIN, BUILD and SEND. Now to win people to Christ, people have to go out to their areas of influence and be the ambassadors for Christ that He calls us to be “Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were making an appeal through us; we beg you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:20. Go and make disciple as COMMANDED in Matthew 28 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:19 Now! It doesn’t say go and make pew warmers in says GO and make disciples… Look at the next verse Matthew 28:20 “teaching them to observe all that I commanded you;”
You see without the building up of the beloved, without the preaching of the word of God, without the teaching of the word of God we won’t have the necessary tools we need to be those ambassadors for Christ. You know by now I believe in the sovereignty of God in salvation and salvation is of the Lord Jonah 2:9. But God’s formula to bring people to Himself is by hearing the word of God Romans 10:17. I heard this a long time ago that we GATHER to be EDIFIED and SCATTER to EVANGELIZE. Have you ever wondered why the pulpit is right smack in the center of the sanctuary? Because the word of God needs to be the center of the worship service. I’m so thankful we have men in my church who share the same passion I have for God and His word, who understand that it’s the word of God that changes people, that convicts people and that equips people to be able to GO and Win people to Christ, not by their power but by His.
I’m reminded of Nehemiah chapter 8 which I want to share with you on Thursday to show you in more detail how effective the word of God can be on His people
and that’s a beautiful thing!
Soli Deo Gloria
