It was A.W. Tozer who said “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
I started this series with this post on Thursday, Like Three Peas in a Pod, I wanted to change a few things about my life with the New Year here and found what I was looking for in Proverbs 15:7, 8 and 9. In those verse I saw Knowledge, Prayer and the pursuit of righteousness or obedience. We started the first of three with knowledge and went back to Proverbs 1:1-6 to see that the purpose of the Proverbs is to gain wisdom and knowledge and Proverbs 1:7 gives us a starting point that is rock solid.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, that’s where we start, that’s where we must start, and once we grasp that one fact that knowledge starts with a fear of God and His word everything else will flow from there. Why is fearing the Lord the beginning of knowledge? In Job 12:13 we read “With Him are wisdom and might; To Him belong counsel and understanding. Jeremiah 10:12 says It is He who made the earth by His power, Who established the world by His wisdom; And by His understanding He has stretched out the heavens.
How do we obtain this wisdom and knowledge? Through God’s word, Psalm 19:7 says The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. It starts with knowing who God is. In John 17:3 the apostle John writes “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. All the wisdom and knowledge we gain is all based on what we think about God and who He is in His word.
Who is God to you and what comes to your mind when you think of Him?
The answer to that question is crucial in where you are in your walk with God. How can we spread knowledge (Truth) without knowing who God and His word is first? Proverbs 15:7.
Do you tremble before His word? Isaiah 66:2. What’s the conclusion?
The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person. Ecclesiastes 12:13
“fear God and keep His commandments”
and that’s a beautiful thing!
Soli Deo Gloria
