Sometimes Paul just speaks out boldly “Stop Sinning” Then again sometimes we need that from people don’t we?
Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals.” Become sober-minded as you ought, and stop sinning; for some have no knowledge of God. I speak this to your shame. 1 Corinthians 15:33, 34
If you hang around Ducks for a long time, soon you’ll find yourself acting like them Ducks! You’ll first start quacking like a Duck, then soon enough you’ll start thinking like a Duck and then eventually your walk will be just like a Duck, You see its impossible to associate with unbelievers thinking and views as a way of life and not be contaminated by them in some way… Soon enough you will start picking up their ideas and their habits. They have a world view and that world view is bad theology and bad theology Paul says corrupts good morals.
Paul’s answer “Stop Sinning and Run With The Righteous”
Need help? Turn to the word of God as John Piper points out below…
Out of all the armor God gives us to fight Satan, only one piece is used for killing – the sword. It is called the sword of the Spirit (Eph. 6:17). So when Paul says, “Kill sin by the Spirit” (Rom. 8:13), I take that to mean, Depend on the Spirit, especially His sword. What is the sword of the Spirit? It’s the Word of God (Eph. 6:17). Here’s where faith comes in. …The Word of God cuts through the fog of Satan’s lies and shows me where true and lasting happiness is to be found. And so the Word helps me stop trusting in the potential of sin to make me happy, and instead entices me to trust in God’s promise of joy (Psm. 16:11).
You will make known to me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
In Your right hand there are pleasures forever.
and that’s a beautiful thing!
Soli Deo Gloria
