Are visits to Heaven for real?

One of the best quotes I have heard about Heaven is for real was from a blogger who said  “Heaven is for real…Well Duh”.

I have read so many reviews and articles from godly men and women who have a big problem with this book and movie.

I couldn’t pass this up, what a great article in Answers Magazine from Answers in Genesis.

Are visits to Heaven for real?

Heaven_Is_for_Real_(Burpo_book)_coverA pastor’s book recounting his son’s visit to heaven rose to the top of the bestseller list and became a major motion picture. Christians were quick to spread the word, but could such visits be for real?

Colton’s descriptions of heaven are full of fanciful features and peculiar details that bear all the earmarks of a child’s vivid imagination. There’s nothing transcendent or even particularly enlightening about Colton’s heaven. It is completely devoid of the breathtaking glory featured in every biblical description of the heavenly realm.

Stories like Colton’s are as dangerous as they are seductive. Readers not only get a twisted, unbiblical picture of heaven; they also imbibe a subjective, superstitious, shallow brand of spirituality. Studying mystical accounts of supposed journeys into the afterlife yields nothing but confusion, contradiction, false hope, bad doctrine, and a host of similar evils.

Listen folks Proverbs 30:4 says

Who has ascended into heaven and descended?
Who has gathered the wind in His fists?
Who has wrapped the waters in His garment?
Who has established all the ends of the earth?
What is His name or His son’s name?
Surely you know!

John 3:13 answers “No one has ascended into heaven, but He who descended from heaven: the Son of Man.

Story Book Trips to Heaven

It’s finally here, the movie about the book ( 6 million copies sold) “Heaven is for Real”. I wonder how many Born-Again Bible Believer Christians will waste their money to see this story book trip to heaven?

Then there’s the Bible version, as the real truth about heaven is revealed in the pages of Scripture. Phil Johnson from GTY writes…

Bible-WhiteBackground.jpeg

Every week, I answer e-mails and inquiries from evangelicals who are confused by the barrage of afterlife travelogues. Why Christians who profess to believe the Bible would find these stories the least bit compelling is an utter mystery, but it is a sure sign that many in the evangelical movement have abandoned their evangelical convictions. Specifically, they have relinquished the principle of sola Scriptura and lost their confidence in the sufficiency of Scripture. Why else would they turn from clear biblical teaching on heaven and seek an alternative view in mystical experiences that bear no resemblance to what Scripture tells us?”  You can read the entire article HERE

Heaven_Is_for_Real_(Burpo_book)_coverTim Challies writes “Colton Burpo doesn’t know how long he was there, but his travel diary has surpassed 6 million copies sold, with a kids’ edition accounting for another half million. Challies goes on to say “90 Minutes in Heaven and Heaven Is For Real and all the rest are not books that beautify the doctrine of heaven, but books that attack the doctrine of Scripture. The Bible insists that it is enough, that it is sufficient, that we have no need for further special revelation from God; these books insist that it is not.” Read his entire article Here

This From David Platt

The best moment of a Christian’s life is his last one, because it is the one that is nearest heaven. And then it is that he begins to strike the keynote of the song which he shall sing to all eternity. C.H. Spurgeon

Learn the Truth About Heaven

John notes in the audio clip below, the real truth about heaven is revealed in the pages of Scripture.

TheGloryofHeaven-NEOne thing is clear: it does not signal any significant upsurge of interest in the biblical perspective on eternity. On the contrary, the data actually seem to indicate that lots of people are simply making up whatever concept of heaven pleases them. We would of course expect New Age practitioners, cranks, and cultists to abandon the Bible in favor of their own dreams and fantasies. But this tendency to invent one’s own personal concept of heaven seems to be an even bigger problem in the evangelical community than it is in the world at large. The heart of our study together in this book will be an in-depth look at what the Bible says about heaven. No matter what one thinks about or wishes to imagine about heaven, the reality is different and better by magnitudes. If the inerrant biblical truth God has given us is the only reliable knowledge about heaven we have access to (and it is), then that is what should grip our hearts and minds. . . . Now let’s see why the Bible’s account of heaven is so much better than the dreams and speculations of the human mind. GTY

New Life in Christ

I love this video posted by Phil Johnson on YouTube, its clear that the message of Jesus Christ and His saving power never changes over the years.

A 1979 film produced in and around Grace Community Church by Family Films. Vintage John MacArthur with long, open collars and teardrop glasses. Plus: special appearances by Jubilant Sykes. Styles and hairdos have changed dramatically, but the message hasn’t. Then, as now, it was biblical, honest, gospel-centered, and clear.

What Did Mary Know?

Dr. John MacArthurWhat did Mary know, what did she know? Well I don’t think she knew that He’d walk on water specifically. I don’t think she could know that He would give sight to a blind man and make the silent speak, she had no way to know!

Listen to the Christmas story below

And Mary said, “Behold, the bondslave of the Lord;
may it be done to me according to your word.”

Mary knew that she was going to give birth to
the Savior, the only Savior, the Savior of the world.

God With Us

If we could condense all the truths of Christmas into only three words, these would be the words: “God with us.” We tend to focus our attention at Christmas on the infancy of Christ. The greater truth of the holiday is His deity. More astonishing than a baby in the manger is the truth that this promised baby is the omnipotent Creator of the heavens and the earth!  (John MacArthur God With Us, Zondervan, 1989, p. 16.)

Why Six Days?

YOM_DAYEvery week we go through a cycle that God established as a perpetual reminder that He created the world in six days. The seventh day is a memorial to His completed creation. To reject a literal, six-day interpretation is to confound that memorial. Furthermore, it is a denial of the completeness of God’s creation. How? If everything evolved from nothing, or if creation was spread over eons of time, then there was no seventh day. So, according to evolution, creation is not only incomplete, it’s going on right now! John MacArthur explains . . .

not-regular-days

One of the greatest debates in the modern church can be resolved by realizing that Genesis 1 is not poetic in nature because it does not bear the hallmarks of Hebrew parallelism. Students of the Bible would do well to study parallelism, the basic structure of Hebrew poetry. You can read the entire article HERE

Thus the heavens and the earth were completed,
and all their hosts. By the seventh day God
completed His work which He had done, and
He rested on the seventh day from all His
work which He had done.

Authentic love “rejoices with the truth”

philjohnson_sm_ezrAs Christians, we need to understand love from a biblical perspective. Authentic love “rejoices with the truth” (1 Corinthians 13:6). Love and truth are perfectly symbiotic, and each virtue is essential to the other. Love without truth has no character. Truth without love has no power. Phil Johnson

What is the best safe-guard against false teaching?

“Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.” — Romans 16:17, KJV

Dr. John MacArthurIdentifying and confronting false teachers is extremely unpopular today. But Scripture calls Christians to discern truth from error, providing guidelines for identifying and dealing with those who try to corrupt Christ’s church with false doctrine. John MacArthur elaborates on this in the following audio.

Governments recognize the necessity of protecting their citizens. The church should be even more vigilant against spiritual terrorists, especially in light of what’s at stake—people’s souls.

“What is the best safe-guard against false teaching? Beyond all doubt the regular study of the word of God, with prayer for the teaching of the Holy Spirit. The Bible was given to be a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm. 119:105). The man who reads it aright will never be allowed greatly to err. It is neglect of the Bible which makes so many a prey to the first false teacher whom they hear. They would have us believe that “they are not learned, and do not pretend to have decided opinions.” The plain truth is that they are lazy and idle about reading the Bible, and do not like the trouble of thinking for themselves. Nothing supplies false prophets with followers so much as spiritual sloth under a cloak of humility.” J.C. Ryle Commentary, Matthew 7.
